It was a thrill to see Matisse: the Cut-Outs last weekend at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The groundbreaking exhibit, at MoMA through February 8, 2015, is the largest presentation of the cut-outs ever shown. It includes approximately 100 cut-outs – from public and private collections around the world – along with Henri Matisse's related drawings, prints, illustrated books, stained glass and textiles. A note: Years ago, Jazz, Matisse's wonderful illustrated and hand-written book, was out of print. A friend searched and tracked down a second-hand production copy for me for my birthday. It was one of my most treasured gifts. And last weekend I saw the original.
